Are you measuring to save Money?

 

 

In these economic and environmentally-aware times, do you realise that you could be pouring money down the drain and not know it?

Do you measure the dosage on the products you use ?  Have you read the label to check how many doses per pack ?

Or are you like most people and just squeeze the bottle or shake some powder in and say  something like ‘Ah that’ll do! Close enough’ ?

Have you ever had a rash or felt itchy after wearing something that you know has been freshly washed ?

It may be because you have overloaded your washing machine with too much laundry detergent not the brand of detergent you are using.

Perhaps your dishes and glasses look filmy.  You may be using too much detergent in your dishwasher or sink.

It’s time to cut back !

These days most of us use the Economy Cycle on our washing machine and dishwasher but have you reduced the detergent dosage ?  If it is a concentrated product, you could probably use half the recommended dose.  I’ve been doing this for years with my laundry detergent.  I have substituted a small ground-coffee scoop for the measuring scoop supplied as I have a front loading machine and I use the ‘short wash’ program.  At this setting the cycle lasts around 18 minutes.  Therefore I buy laundry detergent less often, save on water and save on electricity whilst getting clean clothes.

I then use White Vinegar in the Fabric Softener Dispenser to dissolve any detergent residue out of my clothes and washing machine and this also acts as a fabric softener.

If you are worried about the smell of vinegar, no need.  No smell is left on your clothes. If you would like to add a scent on your clothes, add 1-2 drops of your favourite essential oil like Lavender, Eucalyptus or Rose oils  [ make sure your bottle is marked ‘essential oil’ not ‘fragrant oil’ ]

that overloading clothes with detergent impacts the fibres which in turn attracts dirt. This makes clothes stiff and turns whites grey over time.

Next time you wash dishes by hand, firstly squeeze the contents into a teaspoon – unless you are in a really hard-water area, you’ll be surprised how little you actually require.

Shampoo your hair once only, using a cherry-sized amount. It is the massaging action you supply that loosens the dirt from your hair and scalp, not the pretty foam.  Or to save more money,  take the No Poo Challenge and do without Shampoo altogether.  Your hair will be silkier and shinier than ever

A Marketing Guru suggested to his Production Manager to produce their Toothpaste with a larger hole so that consumers would use more?

Check the basin after you, your partner or kids have finished brushing their teeth. Is excess product staring back at you? Like all cleaning  products that foam, it is not the foam that cleans, it is the rubbing or brushing that cleans.  A foaming agent is added so you ‘think’ that is what is cleaning  [ think toothpaste, shampoo, detergent, etc ].

A similar story with Shampoo.  Have you ever read the instructions?  Most shampoos’ instruction panels tell you to wash your hair twice.  Why?  So that you will use twice the amount and purchase more.

And you will probably buy and use the matching Conditioner to the Shampoo to replace the natural oils you have just stripped out

Cha-Ching!  The manufacturers have got you again

So next time you pour, think before you use it.   Measure up and save yourself some money and less trips to the supermarket
